We’d be delighted to welcome you as a new member. AWC is mainly a philanthropic organization and raises money for several charities, such as Youth Homes, Hospice, VESTIA and more. We are mainly a group of retired women, and while we work to serve our community, we also cherish the friendships, support, and mentorship that we each receive by being a member of AWC. Business meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month beginning at 11:00 a.m., September through June. The agenda typically focuses on club news and one or more of our philanthropic ventures, in addition to enjoying a bit of relaxed socializing. On the fourth Wednesday of each month, we schedule a luncheon with a keynote speaker. In the past few years, speakers have included: Penny Warner, Laurie Strawn as "Eleanor Roosevelt", Caitlin Dunkee for Exonerated Nation and many more. Lunches are usually $25 for members, and guests ($30) are always welcome to join us. Reservations are required. Our interest/social groups include: two book clubs, Walkie Talkie walking/hiking group, Golf & Giggles, Stitching, Mah Jongg and our Nosh and Explore group which plans day trips to Bay Area destinations, such as the Filoli Mansion, Paramount Theater, and Tao House.
A FEW MORE FACTS TO CONSIDER:
Membership is open to all women living in the Greater Bay Area, and as a member of the Alamo Women’s Club you will also automatically become a member of the National General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Members are required to help at one meeting & luncheon a year as a kitchen crew member, as well as serve on one committee during the year. These committees include: Scholarship, Budget, Nominating, Nosh & Explore and many more. While we have many fun social activities, AWC is primarily a fundraising organization. Members are expected to participate in our fundraising activities by serving on committees and by purchasing tickets to our events. After an initial application fee, an ongoing annual membership fee is required.
